Today we ended our harvest: what a challenge! We had a really hot and dry August: in spite of the good water reserves we had, at the end of the month some grapes looked to be stressed, besides ripening was not homogeneous. Thus we started already beginning September to pick up those grapes whose sugar content was high, yet we needed to leave on the vines grapes whose polyphenols content still needed some time. It is always a challenge to decide when to harvest: weather can be a friend and help or not! We were lucky, we had in most of the estate what we required, temperatures reduced a little bit with a good range between night and day, and some rain came to give some new energy to the vines. An uncommon vintage which gave dissimilar results from different areas of the estate: some vineyards that are usually more delicate gave us the best results, even compared to the vineyards usually considered the greatest.
Our viticulturist, Francesco Caselli, can now think to olive trees (almost ready for harvest); it is the winemaker turn now to work hard! In the cellar the nursery is on the go, the winemaker's team is very busy to monitor and drive fermentations and macerations. For our new winemaker, Federico Cerelli, this is first harvest at Gabbiano, he will need to figure out this unusual vintage! |

C’è un po’ di confusione nell’uso di questi aggettivi che vengono messi quasi sempre in contrapposizione. Noi pensiamo che uno non dovrebbe necessariamente prescindere dall’altro.
