In the Soderini footsteps...

“In the Soderini footsteps, Tour Highlights:...”

Tour Program

The sun setting behind Ponte Vecchio bridge, Brunelleschi's enormous dome, the bronze doors of the Baptistry, Dante Alighieri's official Italian language, Prada and Ferragamo, these and much more combine to make Florence an enchanting, unforgettable city full of artistic and cultural wonders.

Your half-day 4 hrs tour, exploring this fantastic city, begins when you meet your expert driver/guide in the Gabbiano Castle. Your first stop will be at 12th century village of Sant’Andreain Percussina. This place hosted Niccolo Machiavelli, Piero Soderini’s Chancellor of the Florentine Republic when he was exiled by the Medici and it was right here when he wrote one of the most famous of his books “The Prince”. From here your friendly, knowledgeable driver/guide will take you to the Piazzale Michelangelo. At this great promenade and lookout point, that was created at the end of the 19th century, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view over Florence. The piazzale is dominated by yet another replica of Michelangelo's David, this time in bronze. Behind you looms the cathedral of San Miniato, and in front of you is the 14-Century Ponte Vecchio or Old Bridge lined with its jewellery shops since 1552 when Duke Cosimo issued an proclamation for jewellers to replace the butcher shops that lined the landmark then. During the relaxed walk over the Ponte Vecchio to the Uffizzi Gallery your guide will illustrate how Botticelli's career thanks to a commission of Tommaso Soderini. Continuing to the Signoria Square we’ll see another copy of David right on the spot where Michelangelo's real David once stood. It was Pier Soderini that gave the young Michelangelo (26 years old) this possibility to show his talent and Michelangelo did not disappoint him! Behind David you will visit Palazzo Vecchio and the seat of the Florentine city and county government. Take in the immense Palazzo Vecchio where Dante Alighieri was an alderman in 1300 and Piero Soderini was a Governor for Life and ruled Florencefor 10 years. In this palazzo Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo faced each other on their Frescos “Battles”. Soderini commissioned a Fresco from both of them facing each other on the same wall of the room "500"….and the story goes on and on. Our next Florentine landmark is the Duomo, or main cathedral, famous for Brunelleschi's dome, Giotto's colourful bell tower and the carved bronze Baptistry doors. No visit to Florence would be complete without a stop in the Accademia where the real David is housed or to Santa Croce, home to many important tombs, amongst them Michelangelo.
