Activities
“A place which can meet any requirement: relaxation and nature, tourism, art and culture, wine and food, sport…”
Castello di Gabbiano’s fortunate position, lying between Florence (15 kilometres to the north) and Siena (40 kilometres to the south), makes it a perfect base for excursions, not only in Chianti but also throughout Tuscany. Guests who wish to schedule visits to discover the magical medieval villages of Chianti and other evocative areas in Tuscany, including the abundant cities of art, have all the maps and information they need to get their bearings, according to their interests.
Those who love nature and sport can find an infinite number of paths for trekking, and itineraries to cover by mountain-bike, or enjoy the delights of one of the most picturesque golf courses.
The more adventurous can experience the thrilling experience of a flight in a hot air balloon, or fun excursions on quad bikes.
At the end of a long, action-packed day of exploring, it is pleasurable to enjoy some well-earned relaxation in the beautiful gardens, or recharge the batteries with a dip in the castle’s large, panoramic swimming pool, surrounded by greenery.
It would be difficult for a guest not to notice and get involved in the ancient gastronomical traditions of this region; our sommeliers and the restaurant chef will guide those guests who so wish on an interesting journey of discovery of the techniques of wine-tasting, and sampling the simplest food and wine combinations. They will be surprised by their untapped culinary and organoleptic skills!
The main activity of the estate, that is, wine production, is carried out around and beneath the castle. Guests can visit the ancient cellars of the Castle and, if the visit stimulates their curiosity, they can take part in an encounter that will introduce them to Chianti Classico wine, following by a wine-tasting.
Who will be able to resist a cooking course, so they can take home the secrets of the more traditional local cuisine, or recognise the aromas and fragrances of more modern cooking within the ancient dishes of Renaissance cuisine.
It is possible to taste and buy our products in the estate’s direct sales shop, located in an old restored hayloft next to the Castle.
Alongside the farm products, there are also books on offer, dealing with Chianti territory, Tuscan wine, Tuscan cuisine, oil…. and various articles, such as post cards, posters, sweatshirts and handmade ceramics.
Next to the shop is the Art Point, a little craftsman’s workshop where ceramic objects are created and decorated and where it is possible to take part in courses in enamelling.
