VINTAGE 2021: CLIMATIC CONDITIONS

What can we expect by 2021 vintage in Chianti Classico(today)?

The spring rains allowed for a good vegetative development and provided sufficient water reserves. The only phenomenon was the slight discrepancy in the growth times of the shoots in spring, due to lower average temperatures, which temporarily stopped the vegetative development in some areas. The frost in April also caused a reduction in quantities – thus expectations are below historical averages – and the current heat and drought also suggest rather low yields. Despite the high daytime temperatures, the temperature changes from day to night is good. Our Sangiovese grapes are currently in good health, the presence of plant diseases is rare. In terms of quality, today’s conditions let us expect an excellent vintage.

We can foresee a fragmentary and prolonged harvest over time, probably starting in the third decade of September.

As always, everything is still in play, August and September can make a difference!
